Overview

The most distinctive and famous building in the Stockholm archipelago is Vaxholm Fortress.
Its museum has a great historic national monument and you can learn more about Stockholm's rich past.

The Fortress was built in the 1540s as part of the new defense along the Swedish coast and as a safeguard of Vaxholm and Stockholm, the Swedish capital. The Fortress museum has fascinating exhibits and films teaching you more about the military history of Sweden.

We recommend you access the island by boat, using your pass on the Vaxholm by Boat tour.
