Experience one of the largest Viking exhibitions on the planet at The Swedish History Museum. ‘The Viking World’ contains over 2,500 amazing ancient artifacts –including Viking coins, jewelry, clothing and weapons – as well as cool interactive stations that tell the story of these fearsome Nordic warriors through themes of cosmology, shipbuilding, rune carving and more. Join in with awe-inspiring Viking-based activities in the sunny courtyard during summer.

Much of the Swedish History Museum’s huge gold and silver collection (52 kilos and 200 kilos respectively, fact fans) can be found in The Gold Room. feast your eyes on thousands of glittering objects from centuries gone by, such as Viking pendants, gold collars, ceremonial swords and intricate reliquaries from the Middle Ages.
The collection of medieval exhibits in The Swedish History Museum is nothing short of extraordinary. There’s a fine collection of amazingly well-preserved armor and weaponry from the 1361 Battle of Gotland, as well as household items and other artifacts that give an insight into what life was like in this period.
Take a walk through the history of medieval Swedish religious art with pieces that date from the 12th-16th centuries and include carved Madonna figures, stunning stained glass windows and grand altarpiece murals. The focus on ecclesiastical art continues in the stunning Baroque Hall, which displays pieces from the 16th-19th centuries alongside a pulpit, painted baptismal font and funeral ornaments.
