Overview
Pioneering dance company Ballets Suédois set up camp in Paris in the 1920s. Get to know the leading duo Jean Börlin and Rolf de Maré as well as the many dancers and artists who contributed to the success of this avant-garde Swedish Ballet.
The Dance Museum was founded by Rolf de Maré in 1953. He hoped his museum would become a meeting place for many art forms, blurring the distinctions between dance, theatre, painting and photography. The exhibition shows photographs, letters, costumes, works of art and film clips from the museum's collections. The Swedish Ballet's archive forms the basis of the Dance Museum, but there are also exciting collections of dance masks, costumes, sketches and stage models that Rolf de Maré collected from all corners of the world during his many travels.
Every year, the Dance Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, live performances and musical experiences!
