Overview

Given National Historic Landmark status, this vessel has a rich history ready to be explored and is currently being restored to late summer 1945, to represent the height of WWII submarine development.

As part of your tour, you’ll get a headset with a pre-recorded audio information. Hop on board the vessel and explore the various compartments and rooms. From the living quarters to the torpedoes, you can get a feel for what life aboard the USS Pampanito was like for all of those who served aboard her and similar vessels. As part of the restoration, the Maritime Park Association has scoured the country in search of missing equipment and spare parts. Don’t forget to check out the onboard equipment that has been restored to working order.

The vessel hosts a number of events throughout the year including Pampanito‘s educational day and overnight programs for children to immerse themselves in life on the Pampanito.

We’d happily do this again. Photo spots were thoughtfully spaced along the route, we left with clearer context on the venue’s history.

Clear signage when we arrived. Audio / guide quality was stronger than usual, matching what friends told us—but better in person.

More impressive in person than the photos. Plenty of time to explore afterward, worth blocking a half-day for. (Morning slot felt ideal.)
