Overview

The brave, the bold and the desperate: trace the journey of those forced to flee the famine.

The Jeanie Johnston tells the story of the thousands of Irish people who fled the famine and embarked on a treacherous voyage in the hope of a better life in North America. Step onboard this imposing tall ship and you will be transported back in time to get a sense of what their gruelling journey would have been like.

Migrants endured overcrowding, seasickness, disease, filth, starvation and storms, along with incredibly cramped quarters; about 250 passengers spent most of their time below deck, only emerging for half an hour of fresh air each day. Learn how the famine forced millions to flee the country, experience what life was like onboard and uncover fascinating personal passenger stories.

The tour takes approximately 50 minutes and is led by knowledgeable guides.

Staff made the itinerary feel effortless. Kid-friendly pacing without feeling rushed, we’d echo the hype online. (Afternoon crowds were predictable.)

Straightforward redemption with our pass. Crowds were manageable for the slot we picked, matching what friends told us—but better in person.

Audio quality was sharper than usual for this kind of ticket. Photo spots were thoughtfully spaced along the route, easily one of the highlights of our trip.

The pace worked well with kids. (Venue matched the vibe in the listing description, we left with clearer context on the venue’s history.)

We squeezed it into a packed weekend without stress. Seating/rest spots helped older travelers in our group, and overall it was one of our favorite stops.
