Overview
With over 600 masterpieces, Louvre Abu Dhabi is one of the most important cultural institutions in the Middle East. Located on Saadiyat Island and surrounded by tranquil waters, this vast 'museum city' celebrates the history of human creativity and how art, culture and history connects us.
Its permanent collection walks you chronologically through the history of mankind. Its galleries combine all kinds of artefacts and artworks from across the globe, allowing you to discover the common stories of humanity, that go far beyond individual civilisations and countries. You'll see world-famous works of art from the likes of Rembrandt, Kandinsky and Pollock, as well as artefacts from Ancient Rome to the Kingdom of Benin and beyond. Alongside its 23 permanent galleries, Louvre Abu Dhabi often opens its doors to other major international exhibitions.
You'll also be wowed by the Louvre's architectural design. Pritzker prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel has taken inspiration for his design from traditional Arabic culture which can be seen in the complex's medina-like buildings. But its the famous dome that is arguably the must-see. Its complex pattern of geometric shapes is made up of eight layers of metal, which produces a kaleidoscopic affect when the sun shines through them, known as the 'rain of light'.
Travelling with family? With interactive exhibits, original artwork and toddler-friendly areas, Louvre Abu Dhabi’s children’s museum is also included with your pass.
