Your trip will begin at the Botterwerf, which is Volendam’s historic Botter shipyard. Traditional fishing boats are still built and restored here today. Together, you’ll learn about Volendam’s maritime heart and get the opportunity to experience local coffee culture and dining. Here, you can savour some of the finest food in the region.
Seafood lovers should sample freshly-caught fish, from herring to smoked eel. Volendam also has many tempting cakes and pastries at its cafes and bakeries.
Your exclusive visit to the Henri Willig Cheese Farm and Clog Factory is bound to be a highlight of your trip. Established in 1974, Henri Willig produces artisan Gouda, Edam, sheep and goat’s cheese that’s enjoyed all around the world. Tour the workshop, see the cheese-making equipment, and sample plenty of delicious Dutch cheese.
At the Henri Willig shop, you’ll also see a traditional clog-making demonstration. It provides a wonderful insight into beloved Dutch artisan work, which involves skillfully carving a shoe from a wooden disc.
