Overview

Visit Giethoorn, a fairytale Netherlands village, and take to the water to experience local life. Your day trip will begin at This is Holland, where you’ll take a two-hour luxury coach to the center of Giethoorn, with plenty of time to wander the village at your own pace. Giethoorn is often dubbed the “Venice of the North.” You’ll see characteristic bridges, waterways, and quaint buildings with traditional thatched roofs.

Walk across the Binnenpad to enjoy a drink and a delicious bite to eat on the riverside – this area is known for its cuisine - or simply soak up the fresh air. There are also three waterside museums and a shipyard where classic Giethoorn boats are built.

You can cycle around car-free Giethoorn, but there’s no better way to embrace all the sights and sounds than by water. Hop aboard your traditional boat and cruise the winding network of canals through the unspoilt Dutch countryside. Your one-hour tour will be led by a knowledgeable guide who will give you an insider’s view of Giethoorn.

So, if you’re looking for a break from Amsterdam’s hustle and bustle, but still want those quaint Dutch canal views, you need to visit Giethoorn!

The pace worked well with kids. Seating/rest spots helped older travelers in our group, matching what friends told us—but better in person. (Would pair nicely with a light lunch nearby.)
